32-Gotta Love This Town – Kingston SP

Just 5 miles from the Massachusetts border lies the town of Kingston, NH.

It’s an old town – the fifth oldest in New Hampshire.  There are historic homes and buildings on the extremely long town green.  The town claims to have more than one square mile of inland water, including Great Pond, on which is found Kingston State Park.

Autumn colors on Great Pond.

The pond doesn’t give the feeling of being over-developed, although you can see houses on the far shores.  So this park is an attractive option for a visit if you’re in this part of the state.  Even better for those who live in Kingston, it’s practically downtown.

The beach is small and quiet.

There’s a small beach, functional and attractive, and a few other areas to explore.  But let’s face it, this park is small, so probably doesn’t merit being called a destination.  If coming from Massachusetts and I had to choose, I’d much prefer Kingston State Park over Silver Lake State Park, mainly because the lake seems less developed.  But I’ll let you judge for yourself.

There’s a shelter by the pond.

A picnic awaits.

Happy Travels!
